Nothin’ Fancy Friday

Have I expressed how much I love that my older brother lives in Birmingham? If I haven’t before, here’s my official declaration. Although we’re complete opposites in most ways, we get along really well. One thing we enjoy doing is trying new restaurants and binge watching shows together.

He usually comes over to the house after work during the week. We’ll grab a bite to eat or he’ll reap the benefits of my roommates who like to cook. Then we’ll watch a few episodes of Walking Dead. We’ve been watching Walking Dead since I was in high school. For some odd reason, we found that be our biggest bonding denominator.

On this particular Friday, we needed to switch it up. I have been craving seafood, specifically shrimp and oysters. I don’t know if it’s that I’m dying to sit on the beach and bury my toes in the sand or— yeah, it’s that. Also, my family is religious about boiling shrimp. They know how to do it the right way, but they seem to only do it when I’m not in town. Thanks, Mom and Dad.

So Mike and I found this little place called Cajun Seafood House nestled in a shopping center in Vestavia Hills. I’m usually pretty picky about where I eat seafood, but hard times call for desperate measures. I needed it ASAP.

So we threw caution to the wind, ordered the boiled shrimp and hoped for the best.

Y’all. It was so good! The service was wonderful too.

Mike ordered the Étouffée and I ordered the gumbo as an appetizer. Then I got the boiled shrimp with a piece corn and a potato. He got the Royal Reds. We were pleasantly surprised and even sent a picture to my parents to gloat a little bit.

It wasn’t fancy by any means, but I might as well have been at Shunk Gulley’s in Santa Rosa Beach.
